If you are fishing around for new spot for big game fishing, you've come to the right place. The Ko Olina Resort and Marina has hosted the World Billfish Challenge for the past five years.
The Leeward coast of the island of Oahu is rich throughout the year for a variety of species and during the summer months the big Ahi run and with them Billfish.
Over the years the sport of big game competitive fishing in Hawaii has evolved from the virtual killing of every marlin towards conservation and tag and release thanks in large part to the efforts of the Hawaiian International Billfish Association and events such as the WBC.
The formation of the World Billfish Challenge came about as a result of participants from the HIBA event in Kona expressed interest in the production of a world class international event at the new Ko Olina marina. The added opportunity of catching Ahi and other species for significant prize money also led to the allure.
The WBC at Ko Olina is a limited entry tournament for 50 teams and is sponsored by Maui Jim and Ko Olina, scheduled for August 2nd - 4th, 2007 and feature points and prizes for Blue and Black Marlin with minimum weight of 200 lbs, other billfish, Ahi, Ono, Mahi Mahi with various minimum weight qualify for other prizes along with product prizes for tag and release.
